Case Study – Turnover
Oil & Gas Client; Houston, TX
Client Question: “Turnover is a huge issue! Closing out 2007, we issued 27,000 W-2 statements for an active workforce of 9,000 employees. While we’ve made progress, we’re still a long way from our goal.”
Pendleton Consulting differentiates itself by providing intensive coaching around the character of leaders – “who are the leaders being” in the process of leading and managing their people to achieve business results.
45.7
The Opportunity
Provide coaching to impact turnover and retention metrics. At the time of the partnership with the client, annualized turnover was 68.2%. This need for improvement was further exacerbated due to their need to retain key experienced personnel in a booming market combined with an extended training process.
The Solution
The implementation began with training of Front Line Supervisors coupled with coaching of Regional Management. One question that resonated with each leader was, “What is life like for those under your authority?” Utilizing an online 360 Principled Leadership Assessment with one focus being character, leaders faced objective feedback from their employees. By engaging employees in their new leadership action plans – particularly related to character, the culture began to change resulting in a higher level of trust throughout the company.
“With some estimates calculating turnover at six times a person’s salary, the 68.2% turnover rate was not only unacceptable but at a great cost to thecompany.”

What clients are saying-
“Mark was a trusted part of our organization for several years while coaching and facilitating Management and Leadership tools to our leadership team. He was my executive coach while I served as Regional Vice President in Appalachia and the Midwest. He also coached my teams and others throughout the nation and Canada. Everyone on the teams believes Mark brought high value to all regions of our company.
It can be difficult for large organizations like ours (5000+) to align vision and strategy with a strong culture of Character. Mark taught us the importance of growing our Leadership and Management Skills (Growing our Leadership Ceiling), Living out our Core Values (Demonstrating Self-Discipline) and developing a strong, respectful culture.
We see the critical importance of growing our company with people of high Character in Leadership and developing good Strategy to move us forward more today than ever. Mark is one of the most intelligent and self-disciplined people I know today, and would recommend his services to any company large or small.”
